Can My Windows PC Run GTA VI?

You just watched the GTA VI trailer again. Maybe for the third time today. And somewhere between Jason sprinting across Vice City and that sunset over the ocean, one thought crept in: can my PC actually run this?

It is a fair question. But before you start pricing out a new GPU or talking yourself into believing your four-year-old laptop will somehow pull through, there is something important you need to know first. The GTA VI PC requirements are not what most websites are making it out to be, and getting the facts straight now will save you from making a rushed upgrade decision.

Is GTA VI Coming to PC? 

This is the part most spec articles quietly skip, and it matters more than any spec list.

As of now, Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version of GTA VI. The game launches November 19, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC release date, no official system requirements, and no storefront announcement has been made.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed in a May 2026 Bloomberg interview that the PC release is being deliberately held back to serve console players first, with no timeline given for when PC players can expect an update.

He also shot down a theory a lot of people had been floating, that this was some kind of Sony marketing exclusivity deal. Zelnick said flat out that Rockstar has “historically released games on console first,” and framed it as console still being the core consumer for this franchise specifically, even though PC now makes up something like 45 to 50 percent of Take-Two’s overall major title sales.

Rockstar’s own history gives us the clearest signal available. GTA V reached PC roughly 19 months after its console launch. Red Dead Redemption 2 took about 13 months. Following that same pattern puts a GTA VI PC release somewhere in late 2027 to early 2028.

There is a more specific number floating around too. Some ex-Rockstar developers reportedly told an insider that Rockstar is targeting February 2027 for the PC version, tied to Take-Two’s fiscal year calendar.

Any website presenting “official GTA VI PC specs” right now is working from estimates, not Rockstar announcements. That includes this article, and we are upfront about that.

Why There Are No Official GTA VI PC System Requirements Yet?

PC players want to plan ahead, and that makes complete sense given how long this game has been anticipated. Even without official numbers, reasonable estimates are possible by looking at the PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware that GTA VI is built around, how demanding Red Dead Redemption 2 was on PC at launch, and where major open-world titles are landing in terms of requirements through 2026.

GTA VI Minimum PC Requirements (Expected)

Good enough for 1080p at medium settings, targeting around 30 to 40 FPS. The game will run, but do not expect it to look anything like the trailers.

GTA VI Recommended PC Requirements (Expected)

This is the target setup. Expect 1440p to 4K, high settings, ray tracing, and a stable 60 FPS that actually does justice to what Rockstar has built.

The RTX 4070 keeps coming up across hardware analyst predictions as the target card for this generation of open-world titles. Already running one? You are likely in good shape for whenever the PC port arrives.

Can a Laptop Run GTA VI? What You Need to Know?

Most mid-range gaming laptops are going to have a rough time with GTA VI, particularly anything more than two or three years old.

GTA VI is being built around current-gen console performance, which sits roughly in desktop RTX 3070 territory for raw output. Integrated graphics are not a realistic option here regardless of how strong the rest of the system is.

For laptop players considering an upgrade, an RTX 4060 mobile GPU paired with 16 GB RAM is a sensible baseline to target. That puts you in minimum spec territory when the PC version eventually arrives. Running something older than a 2023 mid-range gaming laptop means now is a good time to start planning that upgrade budget.

Should You Upgrade Your PC for GTA VI?

Not yet, and the reason is straightforward. There are no confirmed specs to build toward. Rockstar has not officially announced a PC version, which means any upgrade made specifically for GTA VI right now is based on guesswork rather than actual requirements.

A well-built mid-to-high-end PC purchased or upgraded today will almost certainly handle GTA VI comfortably whenever the PC version arrives. GPU and CPU performance is not advancing quickly enough to make 2026 hardware feel outdated by 2027 or 2028.

Wait for the official PC announcement. That is when real system requirements get published, and that is when benchmarking your current setup against actual targets makes sense.
