The announcement is official: Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Netflix on August 27 at 3:00 PM ET. Six hours later it hits YouTube at 9:00 PM ET.

A short animated clip. Lucia and Jason, new angle, new framing. Jason looks absolutely jacked. Lucia looks like someone you do not want to cross under any circumstances. The two of them together sell this whole dangerous couple energy that Rockstar has clearly built the entire game around, and even in a few seconds of footage, it hits hard.
The official caption, posted by Rockstar on X, confirms everything: Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Netflix Thursday, August 27 at 3PM ET. That wording is deliberate. Rockstar is not calling this a trailer. An extended look suggests something much longer and more substantial than a standard cinematic drop.

Why Netflix?
No one saw this coming. Rockstar has handed Netflix a 6-hour exclusive window before the extended look goes live anywhere else, confirmed in Rockstar’s own announcement.
Nobody has disclosed deal terms, but it’s fair to assume Netflix paid well for this. GTA 6 is the single most anticipated game release in over a decade. Millions of people are going to tune in the second this goes live, and Netflix gets all of that traffic first. For the platform, that is a massive win.
Whether this becomes a recurring thing for big game reveals or stays a one-time experiment is unclear. But it is a bold call that nobody in the industry predicted.
How Long Is This Actually Going to Be
This is the real question everybody is asking. Neither Rockstar nor Netflix has confirmed a runtime. A 20-minute figure has circulated online, but that rumor is from June, tied to an earlier expected trailer window that never happened, not this Netflix event specifically. A separate, more recent rumor from just yesterday points to something closer to 7 minutes, also unconfirmed.
Whatever the actual length, the ‘Extended Look’ label and the Netflix exclusivity both point the same direction: this is being treated as bigger than a standard 90-second cinematic drop.
Nothing is confirmed, but the combination of the “extended look” label and the Netflix partnership strongly points toward something much bigger than anyone expected.

The Gamescom Problem
August 27 falls right in the middle of Gamescom week in Cologne, Germany. Every major journalist and content creator is already booked solid with back-to-back demos, appointments, and coverage duties across the whole week.
And then Rockstar drops this right in the middle of it.
At 3:00 PM ET that is 9:00 PM in Germany. Technically watchable, but not exactly comfortable when you are already buried in Gamescom chaos. Rockstar has never been known for coordinating around the rest of the industry calendar, and that tradition continues here.
No Netflix? No Problem
Realistically, the extended look will be on Twitter, Reddit, and everywhere else within minutes of going live. The internet does not hold its breath for 6 hours over GTA 6.
